This position with the Duininck Paving team offers the opportunity to lead high-performing paving crews, ensuring quality work, safe operations, and successful project delivery across a variety of roadway and commercial projects.
The Role:
- Coordinate project needs and communicate clear daily expectations, tasks, and objectives to crew members.
- Lead and support crews engaged in asphalt paving and related construction activities, stepping in to perform work when needed.
- Promote and enforce all safety procedures, ensuring proper incident reporting and escalating issues to the General Superintendent of Paving or Safety Manager as appropriate.
- Supervise crews to achieve high-quality workmanship, efficiency, teamwork, communication, and morale.
- Review, verify, and approve employee timesheets for accuracy prior to payroll submission.
- Analyze and resolve crew member concerns, collaborating with Human Resources on issues involving harassment or sensitive personnel matters.
- Communicate equipment issues or repair needs to maintenance staff promptly.
- Interact with customers and the public in a professional and respectful manner.
- Follow all daily Crew Lead protocols and procedures as outlined in training and orientation.
Work Environment:
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch, and sit for extended periods.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly work extended or overtime hours depending on project workload.
- Travel required throughout Central & Western Minnesota, Northern Iowa, and the Eastern Dakotas.
What we Look For:
- Individuals who work safely and have the courage to speak up when unsafe behavior or conditions arise.
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools—experience with asphalt/paving preferred.
- Strong leadership abilities with experience mentoring, training, and supporting crew members.
- Effective time management, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from blueprints, surveys, and job specifications.
- 35 years of experience in heavy civil construction; paving experience highly preferred.
- Commitment to producing high-quality work with a strong focus on safety and teamwork.
