- Electric Line Worker Journeyman
Description
The Electric Line Worker Journeyman installs, maintains, and repairs the City of Chelsea’s overhead and underground electric power infrastructure. This position ensures continuous and safe electric service to residents, businesses, and city operations while maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, and customer service. Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
Install, maintain, and repair streetlights and associated infrastructure, including filament replacement.
Conduct monthly meter readings for accurate customer billing.
Respond promptly to service requests, customer work orders, and electric power concerns when available.
Support monthly customer account shut-offs for non-payment according to city policy.
Install, troubleshoot, and maintain metering systems including electronic meter transmitters and readers.
Respond to after-hours emergencies related to electric service disruptions.
Exhibit professionalism and respectful communication with residents, customers, and local business owners.
Safely operate and maintain equipment including trenchers, climbing gear, aerial lifts, ladders, hand tools, and powered tools.
Utilize and adhere to all required safety equipment and work procedures to prevent injuries.
Maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and supervisors.
Perform other related duties to support the Public Utilities Service Division as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge
Principles of electrical theory as applied to electric utility systems.
Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution systems.
Proper safety standards and work methods around energized electrical lines (OSHA and MIOSHA standards).
Familiarity with municipal public utility operations.
Proficiency in the use of electrical line construction and maintenance equipment.
Skilled in troubleshooting electrical systems and resolving service issues.
Skilled in the safe operation of heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, trenchers, and diggers.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact with diverse groups.
Abilities
Ability to read, understand, and work from system maps, blueprints, sketches, and wiring diagrams.
Ability to work safely at considerable heights using climbing gear and aerial lift equipment.
Ability to maintain accurate operational records and service reports.
Ability to address and resolve resident and business owner concerns effectively and diplomatically.
Ability to clearly and effectively communicate in both written and spoken English.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team setting.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergency response situations.
